Playing With Matches
As a control freak and perfectionist, (although at my age, I am learning to loosen up), I still prefer art work that leans more toward control and order rather than loose. I have tried abstract work with good success, but it is not particularly enjoyable to me. I have learned to embrace the imperfections of items used in my artwork. I also have enjoyed many happy accidents that have occurred from time to time.
Somehow I got an idea to utilize the ignition, scorch and smoke patterns created by lighting matches against a surface. These images create a very organic element. How exciting for this one who likes control. Once I capture and freeze these images, I continue on with what I like the most. This combination creates a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork… unusual, exciting, freeing and educating for me and hopefully interesting for you.
Pricing varies upon size and complexity. A general range would be $40.00 for a 4″x6″ piece to about $200.00 for a 12″x18″ piece. If you are interested, I am up for commissions, which would allow me to create an art piece specifically for you.
